Port Moody Penguin Plunge cancelled after boat runs aground
The City of Port Moody was forced to cancel its annual New Year's Day Penguin Plunge after a boat ran aground where the icy dip was set to take place.
Crews are trying to determine if the vessel spilled any fuel
The City of Port Moody was forced to cancel its annual New Year's Day Penguin Plunge after a boat ran aground where the icy dip was set to take place.
"We regret that annual New Year's Penguin Plunge has been cancelled," said an official from the city.
The vessel ran aground at the Rocky Point boat launch and the city has yet to determine if the boat spilled any fuel at the site.
"We apologize for the inconvenience," said the release. "We hate losing this terrific New Year tradition, however, safety comes first. We'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year."
