B.C.'s South Coast doesn't often get heavy dumps of snow like the 20 centimetres that's expected to fall by the end of Wednesday.
It's created problems on the roads, cancelled or delayed flights and caused school closures — but it's also turned normally green cities like Vancouver into white, wintry landscapes.

British Columbians enjoy snow day with sledding and snowmen

School districts across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley announced closures due to snowfall on Wednesday morning. During the snow day, many took to local parks and hills for a day of sledding and building snowmen.

Snow Angel helps shovel snowy Vancouver streets

D.J. Lawrence, a volunteer with the City of Vancouver's Snow Angels program since 2017, says he got up early this morning to help shovel sidewalks and driveways. The program pairs seniors and people with limited mobility together with neighbours willing to lend a hand to remove snow and ice outside their homes.

From blowing-snow conditions to clearing bridge cables and vehicles spinning out on hills, the morning commute across the South Coast got off to a messy start Wednesday morning. According to Environment Canada, up to 20 centimetres of snow is expected across the region by the evening.
Snow dump brings wintry scenes, road challenges to Vancouver Island

Residents prepared for the snowfall that blanketed parts of Vancouver Island, from Nanaimo to Victoria, on Wednesday — and many faced some of the challenges that came with it. According to Environment Canada, up to 10 centimetres of snow is forecast for the Island before the afternoon.
