Deadly Surrey, B.C., shooting and subsequent car fire in Delta are connected, police say
IHIT says shooting has all the hallmarks of a targeted gang-related homicide

The B.C. RCMP's gang unit is investigating following a shooting in Surrey's Newton neighbourhood on Monday evening that left one man dead.
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) said in a news release that officers responded to reports of a shooting near the 7900 block of 120th Street around 5:25 p.m. PT.
It said the driver of a vehicle was suffering life-threatening injuries, which he succumbed to at the scene despite attempts to save his life. Police have identified the driver as 29-year-old Jaskaran Singh Minhas.
This marks the city's first homicide of the year.
B.C. Emergency Health Services confirmed it responded to the scene with two ambulances. It said no patients were taken to hospital.

Subsequent car fire
The SPS says that about 10 minutes later, Delta police officers responded to calls of a vehicle fire around 64th Ave. and Westview Dr.
The Integrated Gang Homicide Team, which has taken over the investigation, says it has now confirmed the car fire and the shooting are connected.
"This shooting has the hallmarks of a targeted, gang-related homicide," Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Sgt. Freda Fong said in a news release.
Investigators believe there are at least two suspects involved in the shooting.
