A healthcare worker at a long-term care home in Burnaby, B.C., has tested positive for COVID-19.

The outbreak is confined to one unit of the New Vista Care Home, according to a written statement on the Fraser Health website.

The statement says the staff member is isolating at home.

Health officials did not have information about how many people may be affected in total. CBC has requested an interview with the facility.

Fraser Health says it's working with staff to identify people who may have been exposed to the novel coronavirus.

A rapid response team has been stationed at the facility, which is operated by the New Vista Society, and communicating with residents and their families.

According to the website, there are currently outbreaks at these three other locations in the region:

  • Dania Home.
  • Maple Ridge Seniors Village.
  • George Derby Centre.

The health authority does not list the number of cases at each place.

In a Facebook post on June 8, the New Vista Society wrote a previous outbreak at the home had ended.

Its website says social visits will be not allowed in the case of an active COVID-19 outbreak.

Fraser Health says the home has enhanced control measures in place, which include the following:

  • Staffing levels will be maintained to provide care.
  • Visitors will be restricted access throughout the facility.
  • Staff and visitor movement within the building will be restricted to certain areas.
  • Cleaning protocols have been stepped up.
  • All staff and residents will be screened twice a day.
