The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has made an arrest in connection with a fatal stabbing at Burnaby's Metrotown mall Sunday morning.

In a statement Monday, IHIT said after a brief search in the Metrotown area, one person was taken into custody by the Burnaby RCMP.

"We are piecing together a timeline and confirming the information available to us," said IHIT Sgt. David Lee.

Investigators say the suspect and victim knew each other, and there are no further risks to the public.

No charges have been laid.

Emergency crews were called to a parking garage at the mall just after 11:40 a.m. PT Sunday, according to a spokesperson for B.C. Emergency Health Services.

The victim was taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Police had closed Dow Avenue, south of the mall, for a few hours on Sunday afternoon while they secured the area.
