Pilot killed in helicopter crash near Invermere, B.C.: police

Police say the pilot of a helicopter died in a crash near the area of Brewer Creek, southwest of Invermere, B.C., on Tuesday evening.

Police say the pilot of a helicopter died in a crash near the area of Brewer Creek, southwest of Invermere, B.C., on Tuesday evening.

A ranch owner was piloting the privately owned helicopter, which had two passengers on board, Columbia Valley RCMP said in a news release.

"Search and rescue crews were deployed to the area and located the helicopter, and sadly the pilot, who was deceased," said Cpl. James Grandy, B.C. RCMP spokesperson.

Grandy said the two passengers were found with non-life-threatening injuries and taken to hospital. 

Police said the investigation is in its early stages and therefore will not be releasing more information at this time. 

Columbia Valley RCMP is working with the B.C. Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board on the investigation.
