Investigation launched after coyotes, dogs eat poisoned meat
B.C. Conservation Officer Service believes some type of meat was left contaminated
The B.C. Conservation Officer Service is investigating after three coyotes and several dogs were poisoned in B.C.
A statement said two coyotes were found dead in the Pemberton Meadows area, north of the village of Pemberton, over the last number of weeks. A third coyote was found dead on Wednesday.
"Subsequent testing confirmed the animals died from poisoning," the statement says.
The service said several dogs in the area were also sickened after they ate what is believed to have been "some type" of contaminated, processed meat. The statement Tuesday said those dogs survived after receiving veterinary care.
Under the B.C. Wildlife Act, intentionally poisoning wildlife is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000.
Anyone with information or anyone who sees dead wildlife in the Pemberton Meadows area is asked to call the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) line at 1-877-952-7277.
