The city quiets at night, but it never fully shuts down.

In Vancouver, you can get fresh bagels and pho at any hour. You can take a taxi to a 3 a.m. work out at a 24/hour gym. Emergency responders will always pick up your call, and emergency rooms never shut their doors.

Working the night shift is the norm for more than 60,000 people in B.C. What do these workers sacrifice? And what are the benefits of working while the rest of the city sleeps?

Tune in to The Early Edition March 25 - 29 for Night Shift -- a weeklong series that explores the side of the city that many of us don't see. Join CBC Vancouver's Jake Costello as he shares his experiences on the graveyard shift with a variety of night-owls including bakers, delivery truck drivers, paramedics, hotel staffers, and winter shelter support workers.

Listen to The Early Edition with Stephen Quinn weekday mornings on CBC Radio One.
