Burnaby RCMP say they believe impairment was a factor in a collision that sent two pedestrians to hospital Tuesday.

Police say they responded to a report of a crash involving a pickup truck and pedestrians at North Road and Lougheed Highway, on the Burnaby-Coquitlam border, at about 5:20 p.m.

The pedestrians, both women, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to RCMP. The truck also reportedly hit a lamp post on the sidewalk.

RCMP say the driver remained on scene, and that while the cause of the collision remains under investigation, impairment is suspected.
