Barges run aground along Victoria's Dallas Road
The barges washed up near the foot of Cook Street and Olympia Avenue
One of two barges carrying construction debris and a crane which ran aground along Victoria's Dallas Road during a storm last night has been refloated.
On Thursday morning the Canadian Coast Guard issued a statement detailing efforts to refloat the barges.
"Coast guard is monitoring the situation and will monitor the salvage efforts this morning. No pollution has been observed at this time."
The first of the barges carrying the crane was refloated by a crew from Seaspan around 10 a.m. PT
The barges were reportedly being towed by two tugs to Sidney from the new Coho Ferry Terminal construction site in Victoria's Inner Harbour when a rope broke cutting loose both barges around 8 p.m. PT
Victoria Police, the Victoria Fire Department, the City of Victoria and Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Victoria all responded to the incident.
The barge carrying the crane was washed into the rocks near Olympia Avenue in James Bay. The other barge carrying construction debris beached near Cook Street.
Emergency crew were dispatched and the barges were secured for the night.
Victoria police sent out a tweet saying no people were at risk and nothing could be done until the weather subsides and they were handing over the incident to the coast guard to handle.
