B.C. HST opponents name new recall target
B.C.'s labour minister is the latest MLA to face potential recall by those fighting the harmonized sales tax.
Saanich-North MLA Murray Coell was named Friday as the nineteenth Liberal target by Fight HST organizers.
More than 30 per cent of registered voters in the riding signed a petition hoping to rescind the HST, said Saanich resident Ryan Windsor, who said he's taking on the role of recall organizer.
In order to recall a B.C. MLA, canvassers must collect signatures from 40 per cent of the voters in the constituency who were on the voters list when the MLA was elected.
Earlier this week, opponents to the tax announced the names of 18 Liberal members of the legislature they plan to target for recall starting in January.
Fight HST organizer Chris Delaney welcomed Windsor to the recall campaign, saying Windsor was instrumental in organizing the riding petition and they're confident he will succeed in the recall campaign.
After the anti-HST group gathered enough signatures on the petition to force the tax issue back to the legislature, the government opted to send the question to referendum exactly one year from Friday.
