The Vancouver Park Board says the person who put an Avengers Iron Man helmet on the Harry Jerome statue at Stanley Park this morning, has until tomorrow to remove it.

"We are not sure whether this is guerilla marketing for the movie release or someone's idea of a joke."

Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron is being released Friday.

Park Board staff noticed the vandalism Thursday morning.

"This is not a park board or city art project and we do not condone the activity," the park board said in a statement.

"We don't think the Jerome family would be impressed either."

Many people have been sharing the images of the statue with the helmet on social media.

While some people may find it amusing, the Park Board is not impressed.

"We will give the perpetrators until tomorrow am to seize the helmet — after which we will confiscate it."

Canadian track legend Harry Jerome competed for Canada at the 1960, 1964 and 1968 Olympics, bringing home a bronze medal. He lost a race after a debilitating injury in 1962 that had the media calling him "a quitter," but he recovered to win gold at the 1966 Commonwealth Games.
