Ambulance collides with limo, crashes into Vancouver store
Witness told police that ambulance had right-of-way
A collision between a stretch limousine and an ambulance sent the ambulance smashing through the front of a Vancouver clothing store early Sunday morning.
It's probably not the sort of door-crasher the managers of Plum at Granville Street and W 12th Avenue had in mind, when staff hung a large sale sign in the front window.
The crash happened just before 3 a.m. and sent the limousine driver to hospital with minor injuries. The paramedics were also taken to hospital to get checked out.
The ambulance was responding to a call, according to the B.C. Ambulance Service, but it's unclear whether it was travelling routine or emergency, with flashing lights and a siren activated. No patient was on board at the time.
The limousine wasn't carrying any passengers as it travelled northbound on Granville Street.
A witness told police the westbound ambulance had the right-of-way at the time.
Vancouver firefighters assessed the damage to the building, as there were concerns about its structural stability, but the destruction was limited to the facade, according Battalion Chief John Dennis.
