Homicide unit investigating death of 17-year-old Langley teen
Mounties identify victim as Wenyan Michael Zhao in hopes of people coming forward with tips
B.C.'s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called to the 17900-block of 99A Avenue of Surrey, B.C., after the body of a 17-year-old male from Langley was found around 5:30 a.m. PT Friday.
In a news release, Surrey RCMP Cpl. Sarbjit K Sangha said IHIT has taken over the investigation.
Surrey RCMP told CBC News in an interview that police believe the death is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
Victim is Wenyan Michael Zhao
Police said IHIT detectives asked that the boy be publicly identified, to aid in people coming forward with information related to the death. The victim's family has been notified of his death, said investigators.
Mounties said he is Wenyan Michael Zhao, from Langley.
Police said the youth's family reported him missing Thursday evening. Before police found him dead, they say he was last seen in the 5900-block of 206 Street in Langley.
Mounties are asking anyone who has information about the teenager and where he was between 9:00 p.m. Thursday and 5:30 a.m. Friday to contact IHIT.
Police did not release any other details about Zhao.
