Amped-up classic beauty was the message at Milan Fashion Week
We're loving these super wearable looks from Italy’s fashion capital for Spring 2018
While everyone was talking about the Versace supermodel reunion coming out of Milan Fashion Week, and rightly so, (but where was LINDA??), the other major statement from Milan was their love of classic beauty trends, like cat eyes and red lips. Still, this season, both of these were turned on their heads. The cat eyes were anything but boring, and it was a tale of two reds awashed on models' pouts for Spring 2018. See these and three more stand-out trends from Milan below.
The Trend: Blow me over
The Shows: Bottega Veneta, Aquilano.Rimondi, Salvatore Ferragamo, Agnona, Versace, Max Mara
The Details: At Bottega Veneta and Aquilano.Rimondi (middle parted hair all around), Salvatore Ferragamo and Agnona (where models wore their hair pushed off the face), sleek blow-outs were this season's stand-out hair trend in Milan.
The Trend: Milano red
The Shows: Dolce & Gabbana, Blumarine, Ermanno Scervino
The Details: Italy's fashion capital has a thing for red lips There were some bare lips, like at other fashion weeks, but in Milan, look no further than Dolce & Gabbana, Blumarine and Ermanno Scervino for an impeccably applied, lined, true red lip. Sharpen up those lip pencils girls!
The Trend: A tale of two reds
The Shows: Gucci, Marco di Vincenzo, Philosophy, Max Mara
The Details: Precision flew out the window, however, at Gucci, Marco di Vincenzo and Philosophy where smudged lipstick reigned supreme. Makeup artists blurred the lines and created a and kissed off look when applying rouge at these shows—definitely worth noting if you prefer note to be so strict with your rouge.
The Trend: The classic cat eye goes OTT
The Shows: Marni, Dolce & Gabbana, Missoni, Roberto Cavalli, Fendi
The Details: While the classic cat eye was played down at Jil Sander (think two black slashes of liner on the outer corner of the eye just above the lash line), at Marni, Dolce & Gabbana and Missoni, the cat eye was queen. At Missoni, where on-the-rise model Haley Baldwin sported a fierce electric green version, the look was OTT and fun, while at Dolce & Gabbana the designers went for a classic D&G feline flick, and at Marni, fuzzed out slashes of navy, teal and green were swiped straight across the lid, landing perfectly in cat eye territory just at the edges. At Roberto Cavalli, models' ink black cat eyes were met at precisely the right point by the same black line on the lower lash line.
The Trend: Head gear
The Shows: Missoni, Antonio Marras, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Emilio Pucci, Moschino
The Details: At Pucci this season, some of the outfits were complemented by towel wrapped tresses. At Missoni, the look was Olsen-oversized straw hats, while scarves bucket hats and hoods were spotted at Antonio Marras. At Moschino, spiked biker hats adorned the heads of Kaia Gerber and Gigi Hadid, and were also spotted at DSquared2. For a more regal and feminine take on hair accessories, both Versace and Dolce & Gabbana sent girls like Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid et al strutting the catwalk with gold barrettes, headbands and pins. Can you say no more bad hair days?
