Quebec swimmer Aurelie Rivard picked up her fifth gold medal of the 2015 Parapan Am Games and her sixth in total on Thursday.

The 19-year-old entered the games as a threat to win seven medals and that target is still within reach as Rivard has one event remaining.

Rivard added a victory in the 100m backstroke S10 final to go along with golds in the 400-metre freestyle S10, the 100m butterfly S10, the 50m freestyle S10, and the 200m IM SM10 (S8-10). Rivard began the Games with a silver in the 100m breaststroke.

In total, 27 medals were won in six different sports by Canada on Day 6 of competition.

The Canadians have 43 gold and 140 medals overall — trailing only Brazil, which has 86 gold and 210 overall. The United States is third with 34 gold and 110 total medals.

Lakatos wins again

Canadian Brent Lakatos captured gold in the men's 800m T53 event.

The Dorval, Que., wheelchair racer pulled away from his competition to cross the line in a Parapan Am record time of one minute, 43.90 seconds.

Lakatos also won gold in the men's 100m T53 on Monday.

Lakatos actually won this event on Wednesday but the race had to be restarted after Canadian Jean-Philippe Maranda was disqualified for bumping Colombian Martinez Sarmiento, who won silver in the re-run.

"We go out there and we've got to be focused when we're doing it," said Lakatos. "We have no idea what's going to happen so you have to be prepared for everything, you can't be thinking about what happened yesterday or last month.

"Just went out there and did it."

Canada's Wes Vick originaly finished in the bronze medal position, but ended up fourth on Thursday.

Another Canadian had to win a race for a second time in order to win gold.

Montreal's Alex Dupont originally won the men's 800m T54 competition, with countrymen Josh Cassidy taking the bronze.

But a crash involving five racers put the event under protest, thus forcing a re-run.

When the race was re-done on Thursday night, not only did Dupont emerge as the winner, but Cassidy was able to trade up his bronze for a silver medal.

In the men's 200m T38, Kyle Whithouse of St. Catharines, Ont., won gold and set a Parapan Am Games record in the process

Roxon wins 5th medal

Canadian swimmer Katarina Roxon won her fifth medal of the Parapan Am Games, collecting bronze in the women's 100-metre backstroke S9 event.

The Newfoundland and Labrador native finished 4.43 seconds behind winner Camille Rodrigues of Brazil, and 1.89 seconds back of silver medallist Anna Johannes of the United States.

Roxon has also won three silvers in Toronto, and gold in the 100m breaststroke in her division. The only race in which she failed to reach the podium was the 100m butterfly.

She'll have an opportunity to win one more medal when she competes in the 100m freestyle S9 event.

Meanwhile, Vernon, B.C., resident Sarah Mehain now has three medals to her name after winning the 50m butterfly S7 event.

Chalifour and Cloutier lead sweep in cycling

Canada also added a gold in cycling with Daniel Chalifour of Mont-Laurier, Que., and his pilot Alexandre Cloutier of St-Antoine-de-Tilly, Que., leading a Canadian sweep in the mixed time trial B. Robbi Weldon, of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Montreal's Audrey Lemieux claimed the silver and Saskatoon's Shawna Ryan and Joanie Caron, Rimouski, Que., took the bronze.
