Canada's Danielle Dorris has captured a gold medal, breaking the world record for a second time on Friday.

Dorris had an unbelievable swim in the S7 50-metre butterfly, beating her own world and Paralympic record in a time of 32.99 seconds.

It's the second medal at these Games for the Moncton, N.B., athlete, who previously captured a silver in the S7 100-metre backstroke.

"This [gold medal] means so much more. Fly is very much the event that I love the most, so being able to medal, let alone win gold, is very special to me."

Mallory Weggemann of the United States won silver, and Giulia Terzi of Italy won bronze. It's Terzi's fifth medal in five events in Tokyo.

"I'm very happy. I was not expecting to go that time. I was hoping for a 33 low, I'll take the 32 high. It couldn't have gone better," Dorris said.

Dorris kicked things off by swimming a world-record 33.51 seconds in her qualifying heat to reach the medal race.

When the 18-year-old dove into the pool during her final, she utilized her expertise under water to pop up ahead of her competition. There was no challenging the swimmer for the gold, as Dorris took it in emphatic fashion.

After she saw her time, Dorris laughed and tipped her head forward, pressing it to the side of the pool.

The swimmer debuted when she was just 13-years-old in Rio 2016.
