Kaillie Humphries trails after opening day of bobsleigh worlds
Canadian in 2nd place going into Saturday's final runs
Canada's Kaillie Humphries and Melissa Lotholz are sitting in the silver-medal position after the opening day of the women's event at the bobsleigh world championships in Igls, Austria.
The pair sits 0.31 seconds back from the top German team of Anja Schneiderheinze and Annika Drazek and only a sliver ahead of defending champions Elana Meyers Taylor and Lauren Gibbs of the United States, who are 0.33 back from the leaders after Friday's opening two runs.
"It's tough ice and it's difficult to find the right line," said Schneiderheinze, who's looking for her first world championship gold as a pilot.
Schneiderheinze and Drazek set a track record of 52.94 in their opening run and slid to a 53.13 result in their second.
The final two heats are scheduled for Saturday, as well as the first two men's runs. The action can be streamed live on CBCSports.ca, beginning at 3:30 a.m ET.
