Canada's Cam Alexander ruled out for alpine ski world championships
North Vancouver, B.C., athlete injured his knee in downhill training run on Thursday
The Canadian men's alpine ski team will be down a member for the remainder of the world championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria.
Alpine Canada announced on Friday that Cam Alexander has been ruled out after suffering a knee injury during his second downhill training run on Thursday.
Alexander landed awkwardly after getting compressed coming over a roller on the upper part of the course.
The skier managed to regain his balance and skied down to the finish. Experiencing pain in his knee, he was examined by the Canadian team doctor and medical staff at a local hospital.
Following the exam, it was determined that Alexander will not compete at the world championships, and will be returning to Canada for further evaluation by team medical specialists to determine the next course of action.

The North Vancouver, B.C., native won downhill bronze at the worlds two years ago.
Fellow Canadian Alpine skier Brodie Seger said the team will miss Alexander's leadership in Austria, but he's confident the 27-year-old will bounce back.
"I'm not worried about Cam. His first year back from his previous knee injury, he won the last downhill of the season. This is an extremely resilient and mentally tough guy," Seger told CBC Sports. "So we're going to miss him for the time being but he's going to be just fine."
