YOUR VIEW: Is Gary Roberts a Hall of Famer?

After 21 years in the National Hockey League, Gary Roberts is officially hanging up his skates.

The 42-year-old Toronto native announced his retirement Tuesday, putting an end to a career that saw him play in more than 1,200 games. He ranks 60th all-time in goals with 438, and 88th in points with 909.

Roberts, who signed a one-year deal with Tampa last summer, was not claimed by another club after he was put on waivers before the trade deadline last Wednesday.

This is the second retirement for Roberts, who left the game at age 30 because of nerve damage in his neck. After two surgeries and a dedication to personal fitness, he returned to the ice in 1997-98. Almost half his goals came after that first retirement.
