Ontario senior hockey player in critical condition

A player from a top-tier Ontario senior hockey league is in critical condition after suffering a severe head injury during a game last Friday.

Don Sanderson, 21, struck his head on the ice during a fight in a Major League Hockey game in Brantford, Ont.

His team, the Whitby Dunlops, reported that the defenceman was in a coma in a Hamilton hospital Monday morning.

Sanderson's helmet came off during a third-period fight with an opponent during this game.

Sanderson, a native of Port Perry, Ont., attends York University.

He played previously in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League for the Ajax Attack and the Trenton Sting.

During a game Saturday, Dunlops players wore stickers on their helmets to honour Sanderson.
