The deadline to apply for an NHL expansion team passed on Monday and Toronto was not one of the cities that made a bid.

Only Quebec City and Las Vegas submitted official bids, even though the league said it sent out applications to 16 interested parties.

The price tag for a franchise is reportedly in the $500 million US range and it cost $10 million just to file the paper work.

But after all the talk of bringing a second team to the Greater Toronto Area, the bottom line is that the city has missed the boat on this round of expansion.
