Mike Keenan lands KHL coaching job
Last coached in NHL with Calgary in 2008-09
Mike Keenan was announced on Monday as the new head coach of Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the KHL.
The International Ice Hockey Federation confirmed the hiring through its Twitter account.
Keenan, 63, has been working as a broadcaster since his last NHL head coaching job, with Calgary, came to an end in 2009.
Keenan spent two seasons with the Flames, bringing the total of NHL clubs he's guided to eight over a period of two decades. He was also been the behind the bench for Philadelphia, Chicago, St. Louis, Vancouver, Boston and Florida.
His greatest success came with the New York Rangers, who won the Stanley Cup in 1994. Keenan had previously reached the final with the Flyers on two occasions in the 1980s.
Keenan ranks fifth in total NHL wins (672) and sixth in games coached (1,386).
He also coached Canada to victories at the 1987 and 1991 Canada Cup tournaments.
