The Winnipeg Jets announced Sunday they've reassigned rookie Mark Scheifele to the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League.
Scheifele, the seventh overall pick in this year's draft, earned a spot on the Jets' roster following an impressive pre-season. But the 18-year-old forward had just one goal and no assists in seven regular-season games, and he saw just over seven minutes of ice time in Saturday's 5-3 win over Carolina.
The NHL allows teams to dress a junior-age player for a trial period of up to nine games before the player is credited with a year of service time.
Scheifele registered 75 points in 66 games last season with Barrie. His 53 assists led all OHL rookies.
