Max Domi suspended 1 game for instigating late fight

Arizona Coyotes rookie Max Domi received an automatic one-game suspension Friday from the NHL for instigating a fight with Anaheim's Ryan Garbutt in the final five minutes of regulation on Thursday night.

Domi, who was assessed 15 minutes in penalties on the night and has 50 overall in 64 games this season, will sit out Florida's visit on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old left-winger has played in each of Arizona's 64 games this season, posting 17 goals and 43 points, second only to Chicago's Artemi Panarin (59 points) among first-year NHLers.

Thursday's tussle was only the second of the season for Domi, the son of retired NHL pugilist Tie Domi. On Dec. 23, the younger Domi fought the Maple Leafs' Peter Holland during a visit home to Toronto.

In October 2010, Domi was suspended eight games by the Greater Toronto Hockey League for his part in a brawl during a minor midget AAA game between his Don Mills Flyers and Toronto Marlies.

He was barred four games by the Ontario Hockey League three years later while playing for the London Knights after elbowing Brock McGinn of the Guelph Storm.
