AHLer Cunningham still critical after weekend collapse

Tucson Roadrunners captain Craig Cunningham remains in "stable condition but still critical condition" after collapsing on the ice prior to an AHL game against the Manitoba Moose on Saturday night.

Arizona Coyotes head coach, Dave Tippett, provided an update Monday on the status of the Trail, B.C. native, who was taken to a Tucson hospital for treatment immediately following the scary incident. Tippett did not go into the specifics of Cunningham's medical emergency. 

"In respect to the family, we just want to make sure that [information] stays tight," Tippett said. "One thing I will say is the doctors and all the people involved did a fantastic job in a real serious situation. We're all just thinking [of him] and praying for him and hoping for the best."

Cunningham collapsed just before the Roadrunners were set to play the Moose on Saturday. The Arizona Daily Star reported that he was convulsing after hitting the ice and medics had to cut away his jersey before performing chest compressions.

Cunningham, 26, was drafted 97th overall in 2010 by the Boston Bruins and has played 63 NHL games for the Bruins and Coyotes, registering three goals and eight points. 

He has four goals and nine assists in 11 games this season for Tucson, the Arizona Coyotes' top farm club.

"His family is with him and he's getting unbelievable care," Tippett said.
