Hot Germans roll over Slovakia

Germany followed up its suprising victory over the Americans with a 4-2 win over Slovakia at the world junior hockey championship Wednesday.

German sniper Felix Schutz set the pace, scoring one goal and two assists. Teammate Christoph Gawlik added a goal and an assist.

Juraj Mikus and Michal Korenko scored for Slovakia.

Germany defeated the United States 2-1 on Tuesday.

Switzerland 4, Belarus 1

A day after posting a shocking 4-3 victory over Finland at the world junior hockey championship, Belarus fell to Earth on Wednesday,losing to Switzerland 4-1.

Andrei Stas opened the scoring for Belaruslate in the first period, but it was all Switzerland after that.

Swiss forward Juraj Simek led the attack, scoring two goals, including one short-handed. Teammate Steve Kellenberg notched two assists.

Swiss goaltender Reto Berra, a St. Louis Blues draft pick, stopped 21 of 22 shots for the win, while his Belarusian counterpart Valery Pronin turned away 27 of 31.

Belarus' victory over Finland on Tuesday was surprising. Finland is considered a hockey powerwhile Belarus won a spot in this world championship because of its success in the second-tier world championship.
