Danielle Goyette to coach hockey Dinos
Veteran Canadian women's hockeystar Danielle Goyette is going to take a shot at coaching.
The University of Calgary announced Wednesday that the Olympianis assuming coaching duties for the school's women's hockey team, the Dinos.
Goyette has been with Canada's women's hockey program since 1997 and has played with the Calgary Oval X-Treme since 1999. It was the chance to stay in Calgary that made the jobso appealing to Goyette.
"One of my goals was to be able to coach in an environment like the University of Calgary, with the Olympic Oval and the [University of Calgary] with some of the best coaches and support staff in the world," Goyette said.
The new position doesn't necessarily mean Goyette is ending her career with the national program.The 41-year-oldsaid she's going to spend the summer considering her future with the squad.
Canada's second all-time leading scorer, behind only Hayley Wickenheiser, Goyette has also helped Canada to eight world championship titles.
