Free agent forward Mark Parrish's attempt at a career comeback was cut short Friday after getting released by the Vancouver Canucks.

Parrish, who spent last season with the Dallas Stars in a one-year deal, had a training camp tryout contract with the Canucks. He had two assists in four pre-season games before being cut.

The 32-year-old averaged 26 goals a season for the New York Islanders from 2001-2006, earning an all-star nod while playing there.

He had a five-year, $13.25 million US contract in Minnesota in the summer of 2006 before being bought out after scoring 35 goals in two seasons. The Wild bought out his final three years there, making him a free agent.

Parrish, who was originally drafted in the third round by Colorado in 1996, scored eight goals in 44 games with Dallas last year.

He has 216 goals and 385 points in 704 career NHL games over 10 seasons.
