Canadiens sign Patrice Brisebois

Patrice Brisebois is coming home.

The Montreal Canadiens announced Friday that they signed the free-agent defenceman to a one-year contract.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Brisebois, a 36-year-old native of Montreal, spent the first 14 seasons of his NHL career with the Habs, but played the past two campaigns with the Colorado Avalanche.

"I don't know how they're going to use me but you know I'm going to give everything for [the Canadiens], my heart and soul. I always did that," Brisebois said.

As a member of the Canadiens from 1990 to 2004, the blue-liner scored 79 goals and added 263 assists in 791 regular season games. He won a Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1993.

"Patrice is a seasoned veteran who brings a vast experience at the NHL level. His presence adds depth to our group of defencemen," said Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey.

Over the past two seasons, Brisebois played 113 games with Colorado, recording 11 goals and 49 points.
