Stegall named player of the month
Veteran Winnipeg Blue Bombers wide receiver Milt Stegall was named the CFL's offensive player of the month on Thursday.
Through seven games in 2006, Stegall has caught 50 passes for 856 yards and four touchdowns, and is well on his way to posting his ninth career 1,000-yard season.
Stegall has posted four 100-yard games, including a 254-yard performance against the Edmonton Eskimos.
Stegall is just four touchdowns shy of matching the CFL's all-time career touchdown record of 137 held by George Reed and Mike Pringle.
Meanwhile, B.C. Lions safety Barron Miles claimed the defensive honour.
The three-time CFL all-star leads the league with six interceptions and has 20 tackles, two forced fumbles and one pass knockdown.
Blue Bombers defensive end Ron Warner took the lineman award.
Warner has recorded five sacks and 13 tackles as part of a Winnipeg defence that ranks first in the league against the rush.
Calgary Stampeders kicker Sandro DeAngelis won the special teams award.
DeAngelis connected on 26-of-30 field goal attempts (86.7 per cent), and registered a league-leading 91 points.
