Stampeders lose Rambo for season

The defending Grey Cup champion Calgary Stampeders will be without one of their top pass catchers for the remainder of the CFL's regular season and playoffs.

Ken-Yon Rambo, the league's leading receiver this season, will need surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right knee, the team announced Wednesday.

Rambo suffered the injury in a controversial tackle against the B.C. Lions last Friday.

The fifth-year veteran underwent an MRI on Monday, which confirmed the injury, and will undergo surgery in the coming weeks. 

"Obviously, this is a hard time for me right now," Rambo said in a statement.

"After coming off a great season last year, being the leading receiver in the CFL, I wanted to help the team get back to the Grey Cup this year. Unfortunately, I'm not going to play the rest of the season."

Calgary hosts the 97th Grey Cup on Nov. 29 at McMahon Stadium.

Rambo left Friday's 48-10 win over the Lions after being dragged down by an apparent horse-collar-style tackle by B.C. linebacker Javier Glatt. No penalty was given on the play.

There was some good news for the Stampeders on Wednesday.

Star receiver Nik Lewis will return to the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Saskatchewan Roughriders after sitting out last week with a hip injury. 

Calgary (2-2) is tied with Saskatchewan (2-2) for first place in the CFL's West Division.
