Roughriders delay decision on Tillman's future

The Saskatchewan Roughriders say they need more time to decide whether general manager Eric Tillman has a future with the team, although Sportsnet is reporting Tillman will not return to work.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders say they need more time to decide whether general manager Eric Tillman has a future with the team, although Sportsnet is reporting Tillman will not return to work.

Rider spokesman Ryan Whippler says the board of directors met Wednesday but did not reach a decision on Tillman.

Late Wednesday night Sportsnet said it had learned Tillman would not be with club for the 2010 season. Sportsnet did not cite any sources for the information and reported it was not clear if Tillman had resigned or was fired.

There are questions about Tillman's future with the CFL club since he pleaded guilty earlier this week to sexually assaulting his children's teenage babysitter.

The judge who granted Tillman an absolute discharge said he believed he was sorry and his behaviour was fuelled by a bad combination of non-prescription drugs.

A contrite Tillman said outside court that he hoped his actions wouldn't cost him his job.

Sources with extensive CFL knowledge have told The Canadian Press they'd be surprised if the Riders kept Tillman on board.
