The Washington Redskins announced the signing Friday of kicker Justin Medlock, the leading scorer for the Toronto Argonauts last season.

Medlock nailed 40 of 46 field goal attempts for Toronto in 2009 and made all 22 converts after touchdowns.

With a total of 147 points, he was responsible for 45 per cent of the team's offence, as it endured a dismal 3-15 season.

Medlock attended UCLA and was drafted in 2007 by the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs released him after the first game of the regular season.

The Redskins had kicking woes last season, cutting Canadian Shawn Suisham after he missed several key attempts. The Wallaceburg, Ont., native was replaced for the final four games by Graham Gano.
