CFL award for Lions' slotback Geroy Simon

B.C. Lions slotback Geroy Simon was named the CFL's offensive player of the week Wednesday for his two-touchdown performance in B.C.'s 25-24 win over the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday.

B.C. Lions slotback Geroy Simon was named the CFL's offensive player of the week Wednesday for his two-touchdown performance in B.C.'s 25-24 win over the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday.

Simon caught five passes for 211 yards — highlighted by a 96-yard pass-and-run for a touchdown — to lead the Lions to their eighth straight win and franchise-best 14th victory of the season.

Simon, who battled lower back problems earlier in the season, finished the season with 1,293 yards receiving to edge Winnipeg's Terrence Edwards (1,280) for tops in the league.

Toronto Argonauts quarterback Michael Bishop, who completed 20 of 34 passes for 366 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's victory over Saskatchewan, was also considered for the award.

Tiger-Cats honoured

In other CFL weekly awards Wednesday, Hamilton Tiger-Cats' defensive end Howard Hodges and returner Jo Jo Walker, were named top defensive and special teams players, respectively, while Toronto Argonauts slotback Andre Talbot got the nod as top Canadian.

Hodges edged out Toronto linebacker Kevin Eiben and defensive end Jonathan Brown and B.C. defensive end Ricky Foley for the award.Howard hadtwo sacks, three tackles, a forced fumble and fumble recovery in the Ticats' 21-19 win over Edmonton.

Walker returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown against the Eskimos. Walker beat out kicker and teammate Nick Setta for the honour.

Talbothauled in six catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns to lead Toronto a 41-13 victory over Saskatchewan over the weekend, a win that gave the Argosfirst place in the East Division

Hamilton linebacker Ray Mariuz was also consideredfor the week'stop Canadian.
