Bombers QB Pierce out indefinitely

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers confirmed Monday that quarterback Buck Pierce dislocated his elbow during the loss against Saskatchewan and will be out "an extended period of time."

Blue Bombers starting quarterback Buck Pierce is back on the sidelines, and it looks as if he'll be there for a while.

During the final seconds of the Labour Day Classic against Saskatchewan on Sunday, Pierce dislocated his throwing elbow when he landed awkwardly on a Roughriders defender's helmet in the Winnipeg endzone. The Blue Bombers confirmed the injury on Monday, saying he would be out for "an extended period of time" on the team's Twitter feed.

Head coach Paul LaPolice confirmed as much in his media briefing in Winnipeg earlier in the day.

"[Pierce] will be out a while… he's out a long time," LaPolice told the Winnipeg Free Press.

Calling him injury-prone would be an understatement.

Pierce has missed four games already because of a strained right knee, and though he has started six games for the Bombers this season, he has only completed two of them.

In his last 27 starts going back to his days in B.C., Pierce has left the game 10 times.

Pierce has completed 80 of 120 passes this season for 1,080 yards with six touchdowns this season.

Steven Jyles will now be taking the snaps behind centre. Jyles is 1-3 as a starter this season, and is 93-for-148 with 1,322 yards and eight touchdowns.

Jyles is also battling injury trouble, as he's currently wearing a flak jacket to protect damaged ribs.
