DeMarre Carroll, Raptors forward, out with knee contusion
Will be out of lineup indefinitely
Toronto Raptors' forward DeMarre Carroll is expected to miss an indefinite period of time with a right knee contusion the team announced Monday shortly before playing host to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Air Canada Centre
Carroll has averaged 12.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 34.2 minutes in 18 games. He had a season-high 21 points on two occasions: October 30 at Boston and November 22 at the Los Angeles Clippers.
Carroll, 29, joined the Raptors this season as a free agent after playing for the Atlanta Hawks the two previous seasons, signing a four year-$60 million US contract. The Raptors are the sixth NBA team for Carroll.
Carroll said the injury happened during Toronto's 91-80 win over the Clippers at Staples Centre on Nov. 22, when he bumped into L.A. centre DeAndre Jordan on a play.
"I remember it, I thought it was just the knee swelling up," Carroll said Monday night. "But a couple days ago I was like 'it's not getting any smaller.' It was still swollen so I went and saw a specialist today."
"He [the specialist] was kind of surprised that I've been playing on it," Carroll added. "I can take pain. It was just one of those things. I've been playing two and a half weeks on it and it hasn't gotten better."
Toronto's Lucas Nogueira also missed the Lakers' game due to a sprained ankle.
