Bismack Biyombo to be suspended for 1st game of 2016-2017 season
There is a lot of uncertainty with regards to where Bismack Biyombo will play next season.
But one thing is certain: The six-foot-nine centre will sit out the first game of 2016-2017.
Biyombo is poised to become a free agent if, as expected, he declines his contract option for next season. But no matter who he signs with, he will not suit up in the season opener due to a one-game suspension after accumulating four flagrant foul points during the post-season with the Toronto Raptors.
The native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo received his last flagrant foul in the first quarter of the Raptors' Game 6 loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference final.
If the Raptors had won the game, Biyombo would have missed Game 7.
Biyombo started 10 games in the playoffs and averaged 9.4 rebounds along with 1.4 blocks over Toronto's 20-game post-season run. The 23-year-old played just over 25 minutes per game in the playoffs.
The pending free agent's impressive post-season performance will certainly earn him a raise from the team that signs him, but Biyombo has hinted he may take a "hometown discount" to stay in Toronto.
The Bismack Biyombo suspension could cost him an extra $100k in 16-17 compared to if he had been suspended this year.
