Phil Hughes is back on the mound for the New York Yankees, activated to start against the Cleveland Indians.
The 25-year-old right-hander was taken off the 60-day disabled list Wednesday before the Yankees concluded a three-game series in Cleveland. He had been sidelined since April 15 with an inflamed right shoulder.
Hughes gave up five runs in each of his three starts in April, going 0-1 with a 13.94 ERA and complaining of a lack of strength in his shoulder. He recently made three rehab starts in the minors, going 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA.
New York released minor-league right-hander Kanekoa Texeira to make room for Hughes on the roster. He had been selected off waivers from Kansas City on May 25 and assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
