Reds lose Harang to strained forearm
National League club to place ace on DL, recall Bailey from triple-A
Winners of three straight, the Cincinnati Reds suffered a blow Saturday with news pitching ace Aaron Harang is bound of the disabled list.
The right-hander was placed on the DL Sunday with a strained right forearm. Harang would be eligible to return to the mound July 23.
Cincinnati recalled top prospect Homer Bailey from triple-A Louisville to start against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday.
On Tuesday, Harang gave up five hits, six earned runs and a career-high seven walks in a 7-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs.
The loss dropped the six-foot-seven, 275-pounder to 3-11 with a 4.76 earned-run average in 19 starts this season after he finished fourth in Cy Young voting as the National League's top hurler in 2007.
It will be Bailey's second stint with the Reds this season after he went 0-3 with an 8.76 ERA in three starts between June 6-15.
In 16 starts at Louisville, Bailey was 4-7 with a 4.42 ERA.
Cincinnati improved to 46-49 with an 8-2 rout of Milwaukee on Saturday night.
