Canadian Koskie lands on DL
The Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday placed third baseman Corey Koskie of Anola, Man., on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 6, with post-concussion syndrome.
Koskie, acquired by the Brewers from the Toronto Blue Jays in a trade last offseason, is batting .261 with 12 home runs and 33 RBIs in 76 games this season.
The 33-year-old Koskie suffered from dizziness after hitting the ground hardwhilediving fora pop-upbehind third base during a game against the Cincinnait Reds on July 5. Koskie didn't make the catch, but the play made highlight reels as the ball bounced off his glove and into the glove of shortstop Bill Hall.
Outfielder Tony Gwynn — the son of the former San Diego Padres outfielder of the same name —was recalled from triple-A Nashville to take Koskie's spot on the roster.
In 86 games in the Pacific Coast League, Gwynn hit .305 with two home runs and 35 RBIs. He also had 24 stolen bases, second-most in the league.
Gwynn, selected in the second round of the 2003 draft, was the Brewers' minor league player of the month for May, when he hit .363 with one home run and eight RBIs.
