One day after being diagnosed with rotator cuff tendonitis, struggling closer Eric Gagne was place on the 15-day disabled list by the Milwaukee Brewers prior to their game on Friday against the Washington Nationals.

The move is retroactive to May 21.

The native of Mascouche, Que., has struggled after signing a one-year, $10 million US deal with the Brewers this past off-season. Gagne has gone 1-2 with a 6.98 ERA and 10 saves in 15 opportunities for Milwaukee this season, with manager Ned Yost briefly pulling him from closer's role earlier in May due to ineffectiveness.

The right-hander set a major league record with 84 consecutive converted saves from Aug. 28, 2002, to July 5, 2004, and won the 2003 NL Cy Young Award.

Milwaukee recalled right-hander Tim Dillard from triple-A Nashville, where he was 3-0 with a 2.01 ERA in 15 games.
