Bautista hits record-setting HR in Boston

Jose Bautista stands alone as the Blue Jays' single-season home run leader.

The slugger hit his 48th home run of the year on Friday in Boston, eclipsing George Bell's mark of 47 set in 1987.

Bautista sent a full-count fastball from Red Sox pitcher Michael Bowden into the seats above the Green Monster at Fenway Park, helping power the Blue Jays to an 11-9 victory.

Fans tossed the ball back onto the field and it was given to Bautista.

"That was pretty nice," Bautista said. "Pretty lucky for me to have that happen."

After the game, Bautista told reporters that he'd recently spoken with Bell on the phone.

"He's doing good," Bautista said. "He sounded proud of me."

Bautista and the Blue Jays have 15 games remaining in the season.
