Fresh off a thrilling win over Canada, the Cuban baseball team returned to the diamond to edge its archrival Americans 5-4 in 11 innings on Friday.

Michel Enriquez singled home two-runs and pitcher Pedro Lazo threw six innings of relief for the victory.

Cuba is now 3-0 and in great shape to win its fourth Olympic gold medal. The Americans (1-2) have some work to do if they hope to advance in this tournament.

The U.S. suffered a setback as Jayson Nix fouled a ball off his left eye to begin the bottom of the 11th.

"He's in bad shape," said American manager Davey Johnson told reporters, claiming Lazo was throwing at Nix's head.

The injury caused bleeding and swelling to Nix's head.

In another extra-inning game, China defeated Taiwan 8-7 in 12 innings.
