Canadian show jumping team named
Ian Millar and Eric Lamaze were named to the Canadian Olympic show jumping team on Tuesday.
Millar, of Perth, Ont., is an eight-time Olympian and has gone to every Summer Olympic Games since 1972. The 61-year-old will bring horses In Style and Redefin, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding.
Lamaze, of Schomberg, Ont., is the fourth-ranked show jumper in the world. Accompanying him to Beijing will be Hickstead, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion. Lamaze won a bronze medal at the Pan Am Games riding Hickstead.
Also named to the team were Mac Cone of King City, Ont., and Jill Henselwood of Oxford Mills, Ont. Named as reserve rider was Jonathan Asselin of Calgary, while Mario Deslauriers of Bromont, Que., was named the first alternate.
Henselwood, the only woman on the team, will bring a 14-year-old Oldenburg gelding named Special Ed. Henselwood won a gold medal at the 2007 Pan Am Games with Special Ed.
