Kirk Foat severely injured his hand while on vacation in Curaçao. The damage to his hand was so bad that when he returned to Canada, doctors feared they might have to amputate it.
He underwent four surgeries to rebuild his hand, and was prescribed opioids to help with the pain.
But the opioids came with side effects, and eventually, for Kirk, didn't block his pain as well anymore. He decided to wean himself off the pills, once and for all. He shared the challenges of his experience with Dr. Brian Goldman on White Coat, Black Art.
