As you likely heard on the news, one of the ships from the doomed Franklin expedition has been found. John Franklin never found the Northwest Passage, but he did find a place in Canadian history.
In parts of Northern Canada, he's a neighbour, kept alive through oral history. Although he and his two ships remained lost, they seemed tantalizingly close. In fact, the ship is exactly where some Inuit stories suggested it would be.
Louie Kamookak in Gjoa Haven gets today's last Word. He has collected stories about Franklin for years.and he spoke with our CBC colleagues in Iqaluit.
