Tapestry at 25: bass player Victor Wooten
Some people call him the greatest bass player alive. So when Victor Wooten finally agreed to write a book about music — about learning how to play — musicians were drooling.
And what does Wooten come out with? A book about... spirituality.
Wooten's book, The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search For Growth Through Music, centres on a mysterious teacher named Michael, a mystical guide who helps musicians forge a deeper connection with their craft — and their souls.
Wooten brought that soulful wisdom with him when he came to our CBC studio in New York City to be a guest on Tapestry.
This feature interview with Wooten is a rich conversation punctuated by some of the finest bass-playing you will ever hear. The episode was originally broadcast in March 2009. And Tapestry's bass-playing host, Mary Hynes, has never been quite the same.
We're reprising that conversation for her — and also for you — as part of Tapestry's 25th anniversary celebrations.
