The contribution David Schindler has made to environmental science has been remarkable. From his position as the Killam Memorial Professor of Ecology at the University of Alberta, he has looked at the effects of acid rain and phosphates from detergents on our lakes.

He has campaigned to save the boreal forest, and for clean drinking water on Indian reserves. And he has been critical of oil sands development in Alberta. He has received over a hundred awards and ten honorary doctorates. Michael Enright talks to David Schindler on the occasion of his retirement.
