'Can we understand feminism as a path to peace on earth?': Ani DiFranco on her 30-year career and new memoir

For the past 30 years, Ani DiFranco has been releasing outspoken, feminist folk music under her own label, Righteous Babe Records. Now, DiFranco has a new memoir called No Walls and the Recurring Dream, which documents her musical beginnings in Buffalo, New York, and details her rise to fame and the considerable challenges she encountered along the way.

She joined q's Tom Power for a special extended interview about her new memoir, the boundary-breaking themes in her music and how she feels about the ongoing #MeToo movement.

"Can we also understand feminism as a path to peace on earth?" asked DiFranco. "Because, I'm a weirdo, I know. But this is actually how I see it. It is not even something just for women. It's something for the emancipation of humankind. We need gender balance and resonance. We need women and men at every table in order to achieve the potential of humankind."
